Eureka Centre Ballarat: The Stockade, the Flag and Australian Democracy

The Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka (MADE) on Eureka Street in Ballarat commemorates the Eureka Stockade of December 1854, widely regarded as a defining moment in Australian democratic history. The museum includes the original Eureka Flag on permanent display at the Art Gallery of Ballarat (a short walk away), an interactive exhibition about the events of the stockade and their legacy, and a replica of the stockade site nearby. The site of the original stockade is marked by commemorative structures and is free to visit. The Eureka Centre and museum carry an entry fee; the outdoor site and interpretive signage are free. The area is a short walk or drive from the Ballarat CBD and Sovereign Hill.
