Ballarat Fine Art Gallery: Australia's Oldest Provincial Gallery

The Art Gallery of Ballarat on Bridge Street Mall is the oldest provincial art gallery in Australia, holding a significant collection of Australian colonial and 19th-century art alongside more recent acquisitions. The collection includes the original Eureka Flag, the surviving section of the flag flown at the Eureka Stockade in 1854, which is displayed in a dedicated gallery. The gallery also runs a program of temporary exhibitions, community events and school programs. Entry to the permanent collection is free; temporary exhibitions may carry a fee. The gallery is an easy walk from Ballarat station and is adjacent to the Botanical Gardens and Lake Wendouree.
