Ballarat Facilities Upgraded for Season Finals Preparation

City Oval grandstand changeroom upgrades finished in late July 2026 after Ballarat contributed $1.7 million and the AFL supplied a $100,000 grant. Russell Square major sporting facility upgrade reached completion with new female-friendly and umpires change rooms funded by $500,000 from Sport Australia and $250,000 from the City of Ballarat.

City Oval and Russell Square Updates

These two sites now provide upgraded changerooms that support training and match-day needs for clubs entering the finals period. The works at City Oval and Russell Square directly address player welfare requirements at established Ballarat venues.

Further Sites in Development

The Victorian Government is building new sports facilities in Miners Rest with basketball and netball court upgrades including lighting, plus a competition-level oval and new amenities in Lucas. Ballarat Sports Events Centre stage two works are underway with three 3x3 basketball courts and a strength and conditioning centre, where H Troon Pty Ltd was appointed builder for $3.98 million.

Eureka Stadium Redevelopment

Eureka Stadium, also known as Mars Stadium, is undergoing a $150 million redevelopment to host track and field events. The project adds 5,000 permanent seats to reach 10,000 capacity despite the 2026 Commonwealth Games cancellation.

These upgrades collectively expand the range of available venues and amenities across Ballarat. Clubs and event organisers can now access improved changerooms, courts and seating as the season moves toward finals scheduling.

Local teams will continue to book and utilise the completed facilities at City Oval, Russell Square and the Ballarat Sports Events Centre for remaining matches and preparation. Further progress on the Miners Rest, Lucas and Eureka Stadium projects will be monitored through official council and state government updates.
