Three hundred twelve runners completed the Ballarat Weekly 5K on July 6 with the top male finisher crossing in 17 minutes 42 seconds at Lake Wendouree.
Participation has climbed steadily since the start of winter training blocks, as clubs report higher turnout for regular sessions that feed into larger regional meets later in the year.
The Ballarat Harriers group met at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens before moving onto paths along Sturt Street, where members logged interval work and recovery jogs that prepared several athletes for the weekend race. The Active Ballarat program also ran its Tuesday evening loop from the Sports and Events Centre, drawing 87 registered members who tracked distances through the central business district.
Average finishing time for the July 6 event sat at 28 minutes 14 seconds, down 41 seconds from the same date in 2025 according to club records. Entry cost $8 for adults and $4 for juniors, with proceeds supporting track maintenance at the Sebastopol athletics oval. Organisers noted 48 first-time entrants, many coming from the nearby Wendouree neighbourhood.
The Ballarat Harriers will hold their next group run on July 13 starting at 7am from the Botanical Gardens entrance on Wendouree Parade. Runners can sign up through the club website or at the Sports and Events Centre desk before Thursday evening. Those seeking longer distances can join the monthly 10K loop that begins at the same Lake Wendouree point on July 20.
