Ballarat Arts and Entertainment Scene Expands with July Programs

The Art Gallery of Ballarat on Lydiard Street will open its Winter Contemporary exhibition on July 18 featuring 45 local painters and sculptors.

The timing aligns with a national push to protect artists' rights amid growing AI use in creative fields, giving Ballarat residents direct access to live work rather than generated content.

Two blocks away on Sturt Street, the Regent Theatre has scheduled four live music nights in the same period, while the Ballarat Arts and Cultural Centre on Bridge Street runs its monthly open studio program every Saturday afternoon.

Exhibition and Performance Details

Last year's Winter Contemporary drew 8,400 visitors over six weeks, according to gallery records, with entry priced at $12 for adults and free for under-18s.

Organisers expect similar numbers this year given the addition of three new artist talks scheduled for July 22, 25 and 29.

Tickets for Regent Theatre shows range from $25 to $45 and go on sale at the box office from July 13.
