Vigilant Labs released its FamilyShield awareness suite on July 1 from its Sturt Street headquarters, targeting households and small businesses with simulated phishing drills and device audits tied directly to local internet providers.

The timing aligns with expanded use of household AI tools that pull in family data, creating fresh entry points for attackers who exploit shared accounts and connected appliances in regional areas.

Ballarat rollout details

Staff at the Lydiard Street innovation hub have already run sessions for 180 participants through the Ballarat Regional Tech Park program, focusing on practical checks for smart speakers and shared tablets used in homes near Lake Wendouree. The company also partnered with the City of Ballarat’s digital literacy workshops held at the Ballarat Library on Camp Street to reach older residents who manage household finances online.

These sessions replace generic national modules with scenarios drawn from actual incidents reported in central Victoria, such as credential theft from local retail networks.

Usage data and costs

A June 2026 Australian Cyber Security Centre report recorded a 28 percent increase in incidents affecting Victorian regional businesses since January, with average losses per breach reaching $48,000. Vigilant Labs charges $12 per user per month for the full suite, including quarterly audits and a mobile dashboard that logs training completion rates.

Early adopters at three Sturt Street firms reported a 40 percent drop in click-through rates on test phishing emails after the first month of use.
