Ballarat High School Athletes Win 17 Medals at State Championships

Ballarat High School athletes recently won 17 medals, nine individual and eight relay, at the School Sports Victoria Track & Field State Championships and placed ninth among more than 300 schools.

Recent Championship Performance

The result came through competition in the Ballarat Associated Schools and School Sports Victoria pathways. Students from the school compete regularly in these structures, with the state championships providing the latest platform for results on the track and field.

Specialist Sport Programs

Ballarat High School has operated as a specialist sport school since 1996. Its programs cover athletics, rowing, netball, football, basketball and soccer. Athletics forms a core part of the Specialist Sport Program aimed at elite-level talented students. The school also maintains its own boat shed on Lake Wendouree, which marked its 50th year in 2024, supporting a rowing program that fields 20 teams at the annual Head of the Lake regatta.

Other Local High School Sport

Ballarat Grammar School, another high school in the city, lists rowing as its most celebrated sport and also competes at the Head of the Lake. It maintains records across athletics, swimming, cross-country and senior girls Australian Rules football, holding Ballarat Associated Schools premierships in the latter since 2013.

Community Training Options

Local athletes use facilities that include the free-access Llanberris Reserve hard surface track along with training venues at Lake Wendouree, Victoria Park and Lake Esmond. Athletics Ballarat manages junior memberships ranging from $150 to $395 plus club fees.

These programs and venues continue to support high school athletes preparing for upcoming seasons and events through established school and community structures.
