Emerging talent voices and the next wave to watch line up for Ballarat festival slots

Ballarat's August cultural festival lineup will feature 28 emerging performers and creators under age 30, drawn from open calls that closed on 30 June.

The focus on fresh voices comes as established festivals across Victoria report rising demand for local debuts, with Ballarat positioned to capture that shift through its central location and existing infrastructure.

Programs anchored in city streets

Events will run from the Ballarat Arts Centre on Lydiard Street to pop-up stages at the Wendouree Cultural Centre near Lake Wendouree, where organisers have reserved three evening slots for first-time choreographers and spoken-word artists. The Bridge Mall precinct will host daytime installations by visual artists selected through the city's Emerging Creators Initiative.

Applications showed a 40 percent increase from the 2024 round, with 112 submissions reviewed by a panel that includes staff from the Ballarat Regional Arts Alliance.

Dates, costs and next steps for audiences

Tickets for the main program open on 15 July at $18 for single sessions and $65 for a three-event pass, with the full schedule published on the Ballarat City Council website. Walk-up entry remains available at the Lydiard Street box office for any unsold seats on the night.

Residents can check the council arts page or visit the information desk at the Ballarat Library on Doveton Street to collect printed guides before the first preview events begin on 2 August.
